Something that I learned at Summer Camp
July 20, 2016
As a camp director, I attempt to learn something new each season; or, to relearn something that I have forgotten:
During the summer camp season, the Rhodes Grove Camp team is on a mission to introduce Jesus and reinforce Biblical truth to kids and youth. This summer, Rhodes Grove is focused on John 13:34-35. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” At RGC, we are resolved to impart upon the campers, the command given to believers, to love one another. We (You and I : Believers) can impact the lives of others, the lives of nonbelievers, if they can witness believers loving one another.
I have witnessed believers demonstrating love to one another at camp. I have witnessed childlike faith this summer. I have witnessed campers coming together and meeting for the first time. I have witnessed this first time meeting turn into friendship very quickly, almost instantly for some. I have witnessed the ability of a camper to demonstrate love and kindness to another who camper who was unknown just moments ago. Judgement is absent. Fear is absent. Criticism is absent. Love and joy and acceptance abound in that first meeting. Believing the best in others is an ability that runs rampant in our children.
I have been challenged with this thought. I have asked the Lord to continually restore this ability within me. We could all benefit from choosing to believe the best in others. We could all benefit from extending a hand and reaching out to others with the love of Christ.
Will you choose to reach out in your sphere of influence?
The movement starts with you and with me.
